What is the project about?

What is the task?

The animation was created with Director Wallace Tang. Young Hysan wanted the music video to depict the story of a depressed young boy who is constantly engulfed by emptiness, especially after parties. The story follows as the protagonist slips into 4 lucid dreaming stages.

We were only given less than a month to create a 4-minute fully animated music video. The main obstacles were animating numerous backgrounds and effectively illustrating the character's various lucid dreaming stages.

How did I approach the project?

Due to the limited time, we used photo treatments in Photoshop to create a retro comic effect for backgrounds, rather than drawing each one individually. We developed four distinct color schemes to represent different dreaming stages, connecting them with a consistent light transition effect. This approach allowed us to efficiently produce a visually cohesive and engaging music video that captured the protagonist's journey through his altered reality.
