What is the project about?

What is the task?

CookEasy is a non-profit organisation that serves prepared meals for people with special needs. The picture book, Gung Gung, tells the story of a family learning to cope with dementia in their family member, the grandfather. They figured that food reminds Grandpa of his own family, and eventually came to terms that Grandpa did not disappear. He just went on a journey with his memory.

After they launched the picture book, CookEasy approached me to transform the static picture book into an animation.

How did I approach the project?

The biggest challenge in this project was breaking up the original files from the picture book to animate them. It took considerable effort to separate the layers, add expression and mouth rig to each character, while still preserving the feel of an illustration book. I also chose a lower frame rate when animating to create a picture book style.
