What is the project about?

What is the task?

Following a tragic fire during China's COVID lockdown, the unexpected "White Paper Revolution" erupted. Outsiders find it impossible to know what was happening in China due to censorship. Green Bean Media interviewed two Shanghai residents about their first-hand accounts.

Green Bean Media invited me to create an animation based on their accounts to protect their anonymity, as they cannot expose the interviewees’ identities, including their faces and voices.

How did I approach the project?

To represent China's censorship culture, I replaced all text in the animation with blanks, mirroring the rapid disappearance of social media posts during the protests. I used white paper as the primary visual, employing a black-and-white color scheme to reflect the protest's gravity.
